Care for Betta fish in Captivity Siamese fighting fish
Siamese fighting fish, sometimes known
as betta fish, are common aquarium fish. They belong to the gourami family and
are frequently referred to as "bettas." They have a reputation for
being aggressive fish that will "fight" if two are kept together or
even if they see their reflections.
Betta fish are native to Thailand,
Vietnam, and Cambodia. Their origin defines why the perfect temp for betta
fish is 78° - 83°F.
Contrary to what many people think, they
are not found in puddles. They frequently inhabit rice fields, floodplains, and
canals in the wild, where they thrive in standing waters.
Due to their vast area in the wild, they
are less aggressive and will spar rather than engage in life-or-death combat.
Special Organ
Because they are
labyrinth fish, betta fish may breathe directly from the water's surface. Betta
fish need to be kept in a tank at least 2 gallons large, yet they can live in
such a little cup to some extent.
Physical Attributes of
Betta Fish
Fins
and Tail
They have
several tail species and beautifully colored fins. Red, blue, black, white, and
orange are typical hues. Copper, turquoise, and metallic shades are uncommon.
Patterns
While some betta
fish are solid colors, others can be multicolored and frequently have unusual
tail patterns. These often owe to their names like half-moon betta, elephant
ear/ dumbo betta, and many others.
Size
Mostly, betta
fish grow to a length of two or two and a half inches. Giant betta fish can
grow up to three to seven inches, unlike king
betta size, which typically grows
up to three inches. They often live for two to five years.
Tank environment
Bettas can be
killed by colder water because their immune systems will weaken, and they will
be more prone to illness.
They may feel
uncomfortable in hotter water and age more quickly because of their accelerated
metabolism. A heater should be used to keep the temperature steady.
Filtration of tank
Additionally,
betta fish must be housed in a tank with a filter. The filter will prevent your
fish from being harmed by germs and other toxins. The water should also be
treated with a dechlorinating agent to avoid chlorine and heavy metals from
damaging the fish.
pH of tank
Ideally, the pH
will remain between 6.5 and 8. At least once per week, water needs to be
changed often
My favorite Food of Betta
fish
Pellets
Pellets are a
favorite food of betta fish. The pellets need to be created especially for
betta fish! For betta fish diets, pellets can serve as the main ingredient.
Dried
food
Dried food is a
favorite of betta fish. Blood worms are one of these kinds that betta fish eat
in the wild. Since betta fish adore this kind of food so much, it can be used
more as a snack or treat
Flakes
Not all betta
fish enjoy flakes. The flakes need to be created especially for betta fish! Try
giving your fish a few bits to see if they want them.
